Extensions of spring

Suppose we have a situation in which we have a spring which is attached to a wall from one end and the other end is stretched to a distance x, then the spring will apply a force kx on both ends. No matter whether the end is fixed or stretched. What if the spring is stretched from both ends a distance x1 from one end and x2 from the other. Then will the force by spring on the ends be kx1, kx2 Or k(x1+x2) . The answer is that the spring applies force corresponding to the total expansion of spring not the individual expansion on both sides. So answer will be k(x1+x2)
